Lone Star Loops©
The Lone Star Loops are a series of five loops that can be ridden by riders of varying experience. They begin and end at the Intersection of Hwy 83 and Ranch Road 337 in Leakey, Texas.
Three Sisters (also known as the Twisted Sisters) Be prepared for the Three Sisters Ride. The country is rugged, sparsely populated and amenities will only be available at the beginning and end of the ride. Cell Service is a little "iffy" too so be prepared for any type of trouble. Help may not be readily available. The ride passes a working Exotic Game Ranch where you will see all types of animals. Passed that you will be riding through challenging hairpins turns, switchback corners and sheer drop offs into some of the most beautiful vistas in the State of Texas. More on this ride below.
Three Big Brothers Ride is a little longer and will take you through distance endurance and challeging terrain to Historic Rocksprings where gas and food are available as well as some interesting history of the country. You will pass Kickapoo Caverns State Park and then down to Bracketville where you can tour Historic Fort Clark Springs, eat and relax for a while before the last leg of the ride back through Camp Wood and Lindberg Park and then back to Leakey.
The Baby Sisters are a group of three loops that run through some beautiful country. There are pull offs and all three have fuel stops on the routes. You can view some of the ride in the video above.
There are numerous cattle guards on these loops and this is still open range country!

Three Sisters—AKA Twisted Sisters. This is a 96.94 mi route in some of the most rough and beautiful country in Texas. The route has a total ascent of 4544.85 ft and has a maximum elevation of 2,411.42 ft. This is a route that should be taken only by an expert experience level rider and takes a couple hours at an average speed of 60 mph which you will not average on this ride. The average safe speed will be between 30- 40 mph. The time is also not allowing for any stops at the pull outs to enjoy the gorgeous vistas and amazing rugged beauty of this Texas Hill Country ride.
Three Sisters Loop is the wildest ride you will ever take has been given its name for a reason. At the Intersection of Hwy 83 and RR 337 in Leakey Texas you will take RR 337 W and over the Canyon Rim into Campwood where you will take an immediate right on Hwy 55 and ride toward Barksdale. Just outside of Barksdale Hwy 55 forks and you will want to take the right fork onto RR 335. This is a remote and beautiful ride through amazing untamed beauty and challenging hairpin turns and steep drop offs panning out into beautiful folding mountain valleys. This is a 96.94 mile route through some of the most incredible country in Texas and the total ascent is 4445.85 ft. with a maximum elevation of 2411.42 ft. and should only be ridden by expert level riders. The ride would take a couple hours at an average 60 mph speed but you will be lucky to average 30 mph through the beauty of the wide vistas of this country. RR 335 ends at Hwy 41 and you will want to turn right and ride Hwy 41 to the junction of RR 336 which is yet another beautifully meandering ride back to Leaky, Texas and the quiet charm of the Frio Canyon.
Three Big Brothers-This is a moderate to experienced ride of 179.74 mi route. The route has a total ascent of 6638.7 ft and has a maximum elevation of 2,421.46 ft.. Beginning at the Intersection of Hwy 83 and RR 337 in Leakey, TX. Take RR 337 W toward Campwood over the Canyon Rim and take a Left on Hwy 55. Travel Hwy 55 until just a little South of Montel. Watch for RR 334 and take a right for a beautiful ride to Bracketville. Once in Bracketville you will take a right on FM 674 and travel to Rocksprings, the most challenging portion of the ride. In Rocksprings take a right on Hwy 55 S which will take you through some of the most beautiful vistas in the Texas Hill Country all the way back to Campwood where you will turn left on RR 337 and return to Leakey for a cool dip in the Frio!
Baby Sister 1- This is a 61.69 mi route. The route has a total ascent of 3221.38 ft and has a maximum elevation of 2,394.59 ft. This is a route that can be ridden by an experienced to expert level rider and takes just over 1 hour at an average speed of 60 mph not allowing for stops. Of course, you will not average 60 mph on State Hwy 187. The roads are good but back-to-back hairpin turns and steep drop offs will keep your safe speed below 30mph. Begin this route as with all the other loops at the Intersection of Hwy 83 and RR 337 East. Travel 337 East to the Intersection of Hwy 187, turn Left and ride North on Hwy 187 and proceed to Hwy 39. Turn Left on Hwy 39 and proceed East to the Intersection of Hwy 83 where you will turn left and head South back to the point of origin of the ride back into the beautiful Frio Canyon.
Baby Sister 2- This is a 49.67 mi route. The route has a total ascent of 2736.35 ft and has a maximum elevation of 2,209.09 ft. This is a route that can be taken by a beginner level rider and takes just under 1 hour at an average speed of 60 mph not allowing for stops. This route begins at the Intersection of Hwy 83 and Ranch Road 337. Turn left from Hwy 83 and travel East on RR 337 to the junction of FM 1050 at the peaceful and charming small town of Utopia. You will want to turn right on FM 1050 and travel West to the intersection of FM 1050 and Hwy 83. You will turn right on Hwy 83 and travel north back in to the Frio Canyon and the beginning of your ride.
Baby Sister 3-This is a 82.94 mi route The route has a total ascent of 2882.21 ft and has a maximum elevation of 1,860.7 ft. This is a route that can be taken by a moderate level rider and takes just under 1 hour 40 min at an average speed of 60 mph not allowing for stops. You will begin this ride at the Intersection of Hwy 83 and RR 337, you will travel south on Hwy 83 to the Intersection of FM 1050 where you will turn left and travel east to Utopia and at the Intersection of Hwy 187 turn right and travel south on 187 to the junction with FM 127 where you will turn right and travel north to the intersection of Hwy 83 where you will veer right onto Hwy 83 north and travel back to your point of origin.
